What happens to my website if I cancel?

It depends on the provider's terms: some take the site down at once, some keep it up until the paid period ends, and some delete it. With reddysite, the site stays up through the period you've paid for, then comes down, and your account, a copy of the site and your domain stay with you.

What happens on a reddysite plan?

The reddysite terms of service set out each step:

  1. You cancel any time.
  2. The site stays up through the period you’ve paid for.
  3. After that, the site comes down, and nothing more is charged.
  4. Your account stays open, and reddysite keeps a copy of the site.
  5. Your domain stays yours, and reddysite helps you point it wherever you go next.

Why do providers take a site down?

A monthly plan pays for the hosting and software the site runs on. When the plan ends, the provider stops serving the site. The content and the domain are yours, but the running site depends on a platform you no longer pay for. Some providers hand over files when you leave, so ask what yours does before you sign.

Can I bring the site back later?

A canceled reddysite site can be brought back from your account, and your login keeps working the whole time. Coming back costs half the setup fee, because restoring a site means new hosting, re-pointed DNS and a platform update. Monthly fees already paid aren’t refunded.

What should I check in any provider’s terms?

Before you sign, find the cancellation section and look for:

  • How long the site stays up after you cancel
  • Whether you get a copy of your content
  • Who holds the domain registration
  • Whether canceling also closes your account
  • Whether there’s a fee to leave or to come back

What happens to my email?

Email often runs on the same domain as the website, on separate records. Canceling a website plan shouldn’t touch your mail, but moving the domain carelessly can. Leave the mail records alone and mail keeps flowing. What MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are explains which records carry it. While a plan is active, what a reddysite does after launch is part of the monthly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get a refund when I cancel?

Not for months already paid, under reddysite's terms. The setup fee isn't refunded either, because the build starts when you order. You won't be charged again after you cancel.

Will canceling delete my account?

No. On reddysite, your account is separate from your site and stays open, so you can sign in later to bring the site back or start a new one.

What if my card fails instead?

On reddysite, a failed payment starts a 30-day grace period with the site still up. After that, the site shows a notice that it's temporarily unavailable until the payment clears.
